We're a Pittsburgh Family

Hi I'm Wendy Witt, Founder of the Pittsburgh Probate Law Firm!

This is my family at Drew and Paula's gorgeous wedding in Rio de Janeiro! Joe and I made Pittsburgh our home in 1991 so he could pursue his Master's in Physical Therapy in Duquesne University's new MPT program. Our children were raised here in the Burgh. Two live here, and we're waiting with open arms for the third to return when he and his wife are ready. Kira serves as the firm's Client Care Coordinator. That's a dream come true for me!!

"I've worked with many excellent attorneys—Wendy is absolutely one of them. But she's also that rarest kind of excellent attorney: one whose work is grounded in real compassion. If I were to die tomorrow and needed someone to guide my family through the administration of my estate, I hope they'll follow the note I left behind and call Wendy."

About Us

I was first introduced to the probate process when Joe’s parents passed away—both of them—while we were still in our early 20s.

We were young, grieving, and completely unprepared for the legal maze or family conflict that followed. No one had talked to us about estate plans or what probate even meant. There was no guidebook, no roadmap—just court forms, deadlines, and a swirl of financial and emotional stress.

That experience changed me. It planted the seed for the work I do now: helping families navigate probate with more clarity, compassion, and confidence than we ever had back then.

The "Call Wendy's Team" comes from one of my very first estate planning clients decades ago. I was sitting with a couple—a pilot and a teacher—when the wife said, "I don't worry because if something happens, I'll call Wendy." Twenty-six years later, that statement has stayed with me. I know how important it is to know exactly who to call when hard things happen.

Over the years, I’ve found real joy in empowering and being there for my fellow humans—and it’s always a bonus when I get to know yet another beautiful Pittsburgh soul. Whether I’m meeting someone from the North Hills, sharing stories in the Strip District, or connecting with families from Mt. Lebanon to Lawrenceville or Fox Chapel, each relationship reminds me why this work matters.—And it’s always a bonus when I get to know yet another beautiful Pittsburgh soul.

As you might guess, I do indeed have a law degree and am licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition to practicing law, I’ve had the opportunity to serve on the senior executive team of a national attorney corporation and advise fellow attorneys on how to help more people by building strong, effective businesses.

I've never done any of this alone, and I don't help Pittsburgh families through the probate process alone either. I've created a beautiful team to make the magic happen behind the scenes.

Blessings,

Wendy

Team - and, this time, I'm not referring to the Steelers.

At our firm, the probate attorney plays a central and strategic role in every case. The attorney evaluates the case and determines whether it is a good fit for the firm, develops the overall case strategy, reviews all court filings for accuracy and completeness, and offers ongoing guidance to the team throughout the probate process.

Kira Witt,
Firm Manager

Bachelor's Degree
George Washington University

Your experience with our firm starts with our Client Care Coordinator. From your first call to your final resolution, they’re here to make the process smooth, supportive, and stress-free. They’ll help you schedule appointments, answer your questions, gather important information, and ensure you feel cared for every step of the way. Think of them as your dedicated guide throughout your journey with us.

Alexis Kilgus,
Senior Probate Paralegal

Alexis will be your main point of contact while we are probating your loved one's estate. Behind the scenes of every smooth probate case is a skilled and compassionate probate paralegal team. They help gather and organize documents, prepare court filings, track deadlines, and keep the process moving forward. Working closely with the attorney, your paralegal ensures every detail is handled with care and precision—so you can focus on what matters most. They're here to support you, answer questions, and make sure you feel confident each step of the way.

Paralegal Certificate

The Rest of the Team!

Behind the scenes, many others play an essential role in taking the estate from where it is now to where we all want it to be. More paralegals and assistants, the courts and their support teams, Enrolled Agents, CPAs, accountants, Bond companies, the Department of Revenue, and even the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the IRS have significant roles in taking every probate case over the finish line.
